Do you have a brochure?
No. This website is our brochure for now, but if you have any further questions or want more info, call or email, we'd be happy to help.

Where are the new Ibis frames manufactured?
A small producer makes the raw frames in a factory in Shenzhen, China. They are in an area where much of today's carbon manufacturing is coming from (Kestrel, Specialized, Colnago, Scott, Cervelo, Trek, Merlin, Orbea, Felt, Ridley and a bunch more for that matter). The owner of the company has a PhD in composites and has done a lot of work for both universities and the Taiwan government. We do all the development here, the design, FEA, engineering and testing. We have over 1800 hours of CAD time into the Mojo alone.
The forged parts come from a well-known fabricator in Taiwan. They also make the cases for iPods, Macbooks and iPhones. No, we can’t help you get Apple stuff cheap.

What’s the weight savings/difference between the Mojo Carbon and the Mojo SL?
The Mojo SL uses higher strength, higher modulus carbon, so we can use less of it, resulting in a weight savings. Additionally, the Mojo SL has carbon fiber headcups, dropouts and seat tube insert vs the aluminum found on the Mojo Carbon. The SL also comes with a complement of Titanium fasteners.
Here are the weight savings you can expect to find on the SL.
Weight savings Frame: 130g
Weight savings if you use the DT Swiss Shock: 65 g
Weight savings Ti Bolts: 40 g
Weight savings bolt seat binder (vs QR): 45g.
Total, 280g = .61 lbs

Finally, note that painted frames are 60 g heavier than clear

Can I put a XXX shock on the Mojo?
We STRONGLY recommend using only shocks supplied by Ibis. Even a tiny change in shock length or stroke can result in CATASTROPHIC FAILURE of the frame.
Another issue is that the suspension is designed in conjunction with the spring rates of the shock and changing the spring rate can adversely affect the performance.

I just ordered a new Ibis. What stem size comes standard?
Mojo and Tranny default stem sizing:
15.5" - 90 mm
17" - 100 mm
19" - 110 mm
21" - 120 mm

SilkSL
50 cm - 10 cm
53 cm - 10 cm
55 cm - 11 cm
58 cm - 11 cm
61 cm - 12 cm

Why use Carbon Fiber instead of Steel, Ti and Aluminum?
We think that all those materials are good for construction of bikes. Ibis has made bikes out of all these materials before, and might do so again. For now, we're liking the results we get with carbon. Read our little treatise here.
Scot Nicol, founder of Ibis, wrote a 7 part series on bicycle metallurgy for VeloNews back in the day. At the end of the series, one of his conclusions was that soon it would be carbon's day in the sun. We think that day has arrived. Read Scot's series here, if you're having trouble falling asleep.

What about the durability of Carbon Fiber?
We've decided that this question warrants its own little section of our website. So please go here to find out what we have to say about the durability of our bikes.

What are the build specs for my new Ibis (fork length, tire size front derailler, etc)?

For Tranny build specs go here

Can I use a Rohloff on a Tranny?
Some people have successfully mounted Rohloff's to their Tranny. We haven't done it. It requires some grinding on the dropout. We don't condone this, but again, some people have successfully done it. They attach to the rear disk mount with a device called the speed bone that provides its reaction arm. Again, we haven't actually mounted one, but since the forces act just like a disk brake the Tranny will be plenty strong enough to handle the Speedbone.

About Ibis v1.0

What happened to the original Ibis?
Good question. Not sure we even know. Check out Where you been at, Homes? on a website near you. Actually, on this website.

Can I get shock parts for my SilkTi/BowTi/Szazbo/Ripley?
Our good friend John, over at Castellano designs castellanodesigns.com has graciously accepted the task of keeping track of all bouncy bits for the pre-2000 Ibis bikes. John designed all these bikes, and either built or spec'd the shocks.

Do you have frame decals for my Mojo? Or any other Ibis model?
Get yourself over to chuckibis.com where you can learn all about and purchase Ibis decals dating back to the first models in the early 1980's.

Can I get my older Ibis frame repainted?
Yes, any competent frame painter can do it. We don’t really have anybody in particular to recommend.
You can get decals directly from Scot's Ibis decal site: www.chuckibis.com

Where can I get my Ibis frame repaired?
For all pre-2005 Ibis bikes, we recommend you find a framebuilder who works in whatever material your original Ibis was made.

If you need some love applied to your titanium Ibis, we also recommend you call Steve Potts. He's a master with the tig torch and a perfectionist when it comes to working on things made of metal. 415-663-1974

Can you or I or somebody put disc braze-ons on my SilkTi?
Yes. John Castellano has been working on retrofitting SilkTi's with disc mounts. John designed, engineered and manufactured the mounts, and Steve Potts puts them on. Get a hold of either one of them for more info. Their contact info is above.

Will you have a sense of humor like the old Ibis?
In a word, no. In five words, my lips hurt real bad.

Are you going to make the SilkTi again?
John Castellano, our good friend who designed all of our suspension bikes prior to 2002, is bringing the SilkTi back to life. For those of you looking for 29ers, this is your chance to get one. Again, www.castellanodesigns.com.

Is Scot or Chuck Involved in the new Ibis?
Both of them. He's manning the welding torch now that we aren't welding anything. Makes him feel important. We let him clean the toilets now and again. Oh and he wrote most of the drivel on this website. Scot is one of the four owners of the new company. Find out about the others here.
